Ann Frye OBE, BA, FCILT, FIHT
Ann Frye is an
international specialist on the transport needs of disabled and older
people.
She advises public, commercial and professional bodies in the transport
field on developing and implementing policy solutions to meeting mobility
needs in transport across all modes, as well as in the pedestrian
environment. She also covers personal mobility issues including driving
and the use of flexible and door to door services.
Ann chairs a number of International Working Groups and Committees on
the needs of disabled and older people including the US Transportation
Research Board sub-committee on international activities in Accessible
Transportation and Mobility and the working group on disabled air
travellers of the European Civil Aviation Conference.
Ann is a Visiting Professor at University College London, in the
Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. She is also a Fellow
both of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and of the
Institution of Highways and Transportation in the UK.
Her previous experience in this field covers the past 25 years; Ann was
Head of the Mobility & Inclusion Unit in the UK Government Department
for Transport. In that capacity she developed and delivered a major
programme of research, legislation and education to promote the mobility
of disabled and older people as public transport and paratransit users, as
motorists and as pedestrians. In particular she devised, took through the
legislative process and implemented the transport provisions of the UK
Disability Discrimination Acts 1995 and 2005. She was also responsible for
developing a range of good practice guides to help transport professionals
understand and meet these requirements.
Ann has also initiated and led Europe-wide projects for the European
Commission and the European Science Foundation to develop Standards and
Best Practice in accessible buses and heavy rail services. She has also
advised Governments and transport authorities in Canada, Hong Kong,
Australia and New Zealand among others. |
