Economics of Climate Change, Energy and Transport Unit

Françoise Nemry has a Master of Science in Physics (Liege University, Belgium) and a Master degree in Environmental Science (ULB University, Belgium). In Belgium, after several years of scientific research, she conducted and coordinated policy oriented research projects on energy, environment and climate change, mainly for the federal and regional authorities. In the same time, over the period 1999-2004, she actively worked as a climate change expert in the framework of the UNFCCC. She also worked during one year as a policy officer in the Federal Ministry for Environment (Climate Change Unit).
She joined the European Commission as Scientific Officer in May 2005 and is co-ordinating research projects in support for policy impact assessment. Within the Unit on "Economics of Climate Change, Energy and Transport" in the JRC/IPTS, her main focus since 2009 is on Transport and climate change related policy analysis. Projects managed over the last five years include the IMPRO-car study, the analysis of Feebate and Scrappage policies in Europe, the future penetration of electric cars. In 2010, she has led the work conducted by IPTS to provide model-based policy analysis for the preparation of the Transport White Paper. To a large extent, these projects are based on transport modelling, especially TREMOVE for which she became the reference expert in IPTS and is coordinating the further development. She is also responsible for the research of future impacts from climate change on the transport sector in Europe.
