Mariangels Fortuny joined the International Labour Office in 1997 where
she has been working on employment issues, particularly in relation to
ageing and youth. She recently joined the ILO Youth Employment Programme
where she is undertaking substantial country level work in particular in
Africa and Latin America. Previously, she worked in the Employment
Strategy Department and in the Skill Development Department where she was
responsible for the coordination of ILO's contribution to the Second World
Assembly on Ageing. Mariangels is author and co-author of several
publications and articles on employment and skill development issues. She
has also coordinated the development of employment policy tools and
training materials mainly on employment promotion for youth and older
workers.
Her previous professional experience includes Exxon Chemical as well as
the European Commission in Brussels.
Mariangels studied International Economics at the Universitat Autnoma
de Barcelona and the University of Reading, and holds a Masters Degree on
European Economic Studies from the College of Europe in Brugge,
Belgium.
