Head of Unit 'Low Carbon Technologies'

Directorate-General Climate Action

European Commission

Piotr Tulej oversees the implementation of the EU Climate and Energy Package, in particular the Effort Sharing Decision, implementation of the Directive for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and co-financing for demonstration of CCS and innovative renewables projects under the EU Emission Trading System (NER300). He coordinates climate-related input to the policies on renewables, biofuels and energy efficiency. He represents the European Commission in the Steering Committee of the Renewable Energy Network for 21st Century (REN21) and in the Governing Board of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).

Previously, he was the Head of Renewable Energy Unit of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Earlier he worked at the Netherlands Agency for Innovation and Sustainable Development (SenterNovem), the International Institute for Energy Conservation – Europe (IIEC-Europe) and Johnson Controls Inc. He began his professional career in research and development.

He authored or co-authored a number of publications on energy technologies, markets and policies.

He is a member of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers and a member of European Council for Energy Efficient Economy.
