Professor Simon Rogerson BSc FBCS

Simon Rogerson is Director of the Centre for
Computing and Social Responsibility at De Montfort University, UK. He is
Europes first Professor in Computer Ethics and was named one of the
world's top five experts in the field at the World Technology Awards 2003.
He holds the 2000 IFIP Namur Award for outstanding contribution to the
creation of awareness of the social implications of information
technology. He was awarded a Visiting Research Professorship in 2005 to
the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at Charles Sturt
University/ANU, Canberra. In 2005 he became the first non-American to be
given the prestigious SICAS Making a Difference Award by the ACM.
Following a successful industrial career where he held managerial posts
in the computer field, he now combines research, lecturing and consultancy
in the management, organisational and ethical aspects of ICT. His current
research focuses on technological assessment, ethical systems development
and qualitative stakeholder analysis. He is editor and member of the
editorial boards of several academic journals. He conceived and co-directs
the ETHICOMP conference series and created the worlds leading Web portal
on computer ethics.
Simon has advised the European Commission and the Russian Government on
the implications of the information society. He was a leading member on
the Measures of Success project for the e-Envoy and the Implementation of
Electronic Voting project for the UK Government. He led the development of
the Code of Good Practice for the British Computer Society and the Ethics
Curriculum Map for the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is a member of the
Parliamentary IT Committee, Vice President and Council Member of the
Institute for the Management of Information Systems, and an elected board
member of the International Society for Ethics and Information
Technology.
